Evelyn Louise Schonvogel Stehle passed away peacefully, after a period of declining health, surrounded by family, on June 12, 2018 in Tomball, Texas.
Evelyn was born in Orange Grove, Texas 90 years ago on September 16, 1927, and lived in the community until 2010, when she moved to Tomball to be near family.
Evelyn grew up enjoying the country life of her farming community. After graduation from Orange Grove High School, she attended Texas Lutheran College where she was a proud member of their traveling choir. She returned to Orange Grove to teach elementary school for a number of years before marriage. Evelyn was involved with Faith United Church's Sunday School, Women's Guild, Choir, Church Council, and served as a representative to state and national conferences of the United Church of Christ. She was an active member of her community participating in Tuesday Study Club, PTA, 4-H, FFA and Band Boosters.
Evelyn was a loving, supportive farm wife and mother. She enjoyed spending her days cooking, baking, sewing and bringing loved ones together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage; a daughter, Kathryn Ann; a son-in-law, Ronald Ivy; a brother, Alton; and her parents Herman and Hulda Schonvogel.
Evelyn is survived by three children: Patricia Ivy, Donald Stehle (Debra), and Janice Truemper (Timothy) and her sister, Doris Daniels (Lonnie). Her treasured grandchildren are Amy Ivy Wessner (Steven), Kristopher Stehle, Kevin Ivy (Ashlee), Wyatt Stehle and Sarah Truemper. Evelyn was blessed with five great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “GG.”
A visitation will be held the evening before from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary, located at 2061 E. Main Street, Alice, Texas 78332. Friends and family are invited to attend Evelyn Stehle’s funeral service on Monday, July 2, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Faith United Church, 106 Faith Drive, Orange Grove, Texas 78372.
