Billy Bradley Boyd, age 93, passed into his eternal heavenly home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Kingwood, Texas.
He was born in Walters, Oklahoma in Hockley County on January 5, 1925 to Velma Mildred Phillips. He later changed his birthdate to July 10, 1924 in order to join the military before turning 18.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps in active service from June 16, 1943 to 1946 as WWII Fighter Pilot, instructor as well as other roles as Captain and continued to serve until he retired honorably to United State Marine Corps Reserves as Major in August, 1963 after over 20 years of service. He continued working at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi in a supervisory position until his retirement.
Billy married Verna Mae (Bechthold) Fischer on October 12, 1985. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Alice, Texas. Billy and Verna lived in Alice from 1985 until 2011 when they moved to Kingwood for additional family assistance. Billy lived in Corpus Christi prior to moving to Alice.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed traveling and sailing and spending time with his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Verna Boyd; two sisters, Joanne Ingram and Elrae (Tom) Wells; his children, Sidney Balster (Charles Henry) of Corpus Christi, Bradley Boyd of Corpus Christi, Stephanie Forbes of Richmond, Virginia; his step-children, Ron Fischer of Houston, Don Fischer of Edinburg, Brenda (Layne) Smith of Kingwood, and Glenda (Todd) Carpenter of Katy; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Boyd, John Balster, Brandy Hyman, Andie (Greg) Feits, Cody Smith, Colton Smith, Courtney Smith, Ty Carpenter, and Cole Carpenter; six great-grandchildren, Cade Gonzales, Tiger Lily Balster Zapel, Annabelle Hyman, Ever Hyman, Dahlia Feits, and Cassidy Feits as well as many cherished friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with Family receiving Friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Alice.
Interment with Military Graveside Honors will follow at Alice Cemetery.
