Alvin John Von Ruff, Sr., age 84, passed away in Kingsville, Texas on March 13, 2018.
He was born on March 4, 1934 to Melina and Walter John Von Ruff in Buckhorn, Texas.
He served our country in the Texas National Guard while he was still a teenager. He later joined United States Marine Corps in 1953, where he met the love of his life, Marilynn, and married. He then shifted his career focus to the United States Air Force in 1957 and served until retirement in 1974. After retirement, he lived for a time in Holdingford, Minnesota, working for Dairy Craft. After 4 years, he returned to Alice, Texas where he worked for and was part owner of Foster Electric and Gulf Electrical Wholesale until his retirement.
Always helpful, he was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Alice, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Von Ruff, his mother, Melinda Wiese Von Ruff and his wife of 51 years Marilyn “Lynn” Von Ruff.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, Al (Kathleen) VonRuff of Mundelein, Illinois, Tim (Cristina) Von Ruff of Houston, Texas, Daniel (Gokce) Von Ruff of Bursa, Turkey, and Tom (Andrea) Von Ruff of Fort Worth, Texas; as well as his five grandchildren, Olivia, Lucas, Amanda, Jessica-Aylin, and Lilliana.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Alice with Msgr. Leonard Pivonka as celebrant.
Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
