Joseph Brandon “Joby” Dunlavy lost his battle with cancer. He handled all of his challenges of this disease with grace and courage. He passed peacefully with his family around him on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. He will be greatly missed.

Joby was born on April 30, 1979 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Judy and William Dunlavy.

Joby will be greatly missed by his family and his many, many friends. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life, you could call him anytime and he would be there. He was very savvy when it came to phones, TV, computers, or anything technical. He has come to the rescue many times to fix problems, he would try to show you how, but if you were not fast enough, he would do it so fast you could not follow anyway.

He was a very talented jewelry maker, but his love was baking. He graduated from Cordon Bleu Culinary School in Austin with a pastry chef degree. He worked for Sugarbakers in Corpus Christi, where he made friends with many and truly enjoyed working with them.

He had the best sense of humor, he was known for all of his funny, silly Facebook posts. If he saw a friend having a bad day, he could always find one to cheer them up. Many friends and family benefitted from all of his talents. He loved to go to everything that Dustin and Walker were involved in. These two boys were truly his heart. He would also have weekly dinners at his friend Belinda’s house where he, Belinda and Jerry would cook and laugh and have fun. Of course, Joby was the dessert maker, but his cooking was not bad either.

Probably the greatest thing about Joby is when he got sick, he never complained one time all the way to the end. He would tell us “why would I complain, there is always someone worse off than me”, and he would say “no matter what happens, Life goes on.” So our life will go on, it will not ever be the same, but it will go on. His family is so proud of him and how he handled everything. He will be missed but he left us with so many memories. His infectious smile, his sense of humor and his love of family and friends. He was truly a gentle soul.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bob and LuAnn Dunlavy; his maternal grandparents, Joe and Judy Crawford; and his uncle, Bobby Dunlavy.

Joby is survived by his parents, Bill and Judy Dunlavy, his brother, Billy Dunlavy and his wife Ashli and their sons, Dustin and Walker Dunlavy; his aunt, Brenda Pawelek; his uncle, Tom Dunlavy and his wife Starla and their children, Leslie and Ryan Dunlavy; his cousin, Jodie Meyers and her husband Dennis and their children, Dillon, Shane, and Julie Meyers; his cousin Bubba Huffman and his wife Rhonda; and his special friend, Belinda Galvan.

Visitation with Family receiving Friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Harold Roan officiating.

Interment will follow at Alice Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas.
