Lewis Allen Cobb, age 92 of Alice, Texas, departed this world the morning of January 2, 2018, to join the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Guidry Cobb; his dear friend - "the brother I never had" Clem Pierce; and all his other beloved friends and family members who went on ahead of him.

He was born December 5, 1925, in Newlin, Texas, to the farming family of John Otis and Ruth Helm Cobb. An only child, he grew up with a large extended family and roamed the hills and canyons of the Texas Panhandle with his many cousins.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy as an electronics technician; which ultimately would lead to a career in the oilfield as a Division Engineer for Welex, later known as Halliburton Logging Services, where he worked until he retired to care for his wife. He was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University and always made a point of keeping up with all of their teams.

Lewis was an avid, lifelong golfer with an amazing 10 holes-in-one to his credit. He also believed strongly in the value of exercise, practicing yoga and lifting weights almost every day, went "around the world" a couple of times on his Schwinn Airdyne stationary cycle and could often be seen jogging near the Sugar Dip off of North Cameron or around the ballparks.

He had a very strong and abiding faith in his God, and lived his life according to a very high moral standard. He believed in "walking his talk," and could frequently be seen with his friends Clem Pierce and Ross Dudney caring for the property at the various churches he attended - most recently as a member of First Baptist Church.
He was always willing to lend a hand or help out whenever anyone needed anything; and his personal life motto was, "Any day I can help somebody is a good day."

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his parents-in-law Aurelien and Carmen Guidry, and David Guidry Sr.; and many, many family members and dear friends.

Survivors include his children, Lois Cobb (Jack) Stephens, Stephen (Linda) Cobb, Deborah Cobb and Timothy (Theresa) Cobb; his grandchildren, Rhiannon Stephens, Jennifer (Martin Garcia) Stephens, Marissa (Johnny Ramos) Stephens, Matthew (Sarah) Cobb, Kristin Cobb, Zachary Cobb and Haley Cobb; three great-granddaughters, Lilieth Stephens, Melania Ramos and another great-granddaughter on the way; his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond (Myrna) Guidry and their children; and his cousins, George "Parks" (Marian) Turner, Paul Ed (the late Margo) Read and Jack Helm.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to David Lopez of Healthy Horizons Hospice for the outstanding care and love he provided for their father over the past several months. David, your care and compassion has made an extremely difficult situation much, much more bearable; and we will always love you for that.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel with interment immediately following at Roselawn Memorial Park in Alice, Texas.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to The Salvation Army https://secure20.salvationarmy.org/donation.jsp or to The American Legion https://www.members.legion.org/tal/donatenow#legion-org-header.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas.

Condolences for the family may be offered at www.holmgreenmortuaryinc.com and shared via Holmgreen Mortuary Facebook.
